Who Did It Best at the VMAs

Tuesday September 15, 2009

It's one thing when celebs wear the same outfit to different events, but what happens when stars sport the very same thing to the very same event! EEEK!

It happened the other night at MTV's Video Music Awards. Yes, besides Kayne's on-the-stage antics (Team Taylor!), there was definitely some red carpet style antics that got overlooked. Both Pink and Shakira need to find new stylists because both singers showed up sporting the same crystal-studded leather Balmain mini-dress. Luckily both ladies were pretty low-key about it and even posed together for pics. No divas here!

We have to admit while Pink has a seriously rockin' bod (maybe it's due to her trapeze act), we love how Shakira kept up the dress' edgy vibe by pairing it with thigh-high boots. Hello sexy!

Ramona Singer for HSN

Tuesday September 8, 2009

If you're like us then you are probably missing The Real Housewives of New York. The good news is that right now they are taping the new season (woohoo), but who knows when we'll see it. Hopefully soon.

In the meantime if you're in desperate need of some RHONY then check out Ramona Singer and her affordable yet stylish jewelry line on HSN on Sunday September 13 at 11pm and Monday September 14 at 10pm.

Ramona's always blinged out on the show so we're excited to see her line of pendants, earrings, bracelets and rings, all nicely priced between $200 and $500, which was inspired by her love for estate and art deco jewelry. We're ready to set our DVR!

Project Runway Season Six, Week 3

Thursday September 3, 2009

It's that time again...Project Runway live blogging and tweeting! So far we've lost Ari and Malvin, no big surprises there. This week we're working in teams so we're expecting BIG drama. Will Mitchell survive this week, again?

We're going on a field trip - I was hoping for Disneyland, but it's not. Santa Monica. Tim's a little overdressed for the beach, no? This week we're exploring beach and surfwear, well a fun and fashionable surfwear look. And a perfect hairstyle on your model...sounds rough since my hair always look wacky at the beach!

Toughest part is they have to work in teams of two..uh oh. Shirn gets to pick her partner first. Somehow Mitchell is a team leader...blerg. Shirin + Carol, Logan + Christopher, Nicholas + Gordana, Micthell + Ra'Mon (who just threw up in his mouth a little), Althea + Louise, Qristyl + Epperson, Johnny + Irina (who I think rocks). They get to discuss options with some real surfer gals, which is an added bonus. And they have to choose between their models as well. Yikes, only a $50 budget and barely any time to shop.

Epperson and Qristyl are already clashing...and no big surprise Mitchell and Ra'Mon aren't getting along. And then suddenly the stakes are raised, when Heidi asks for a second avant garde look that will also walk the runway...what???

Ok, Qristyl needs to put her ego aside. So what if Epperson is telling her how to do crap. Thank goodness Ra'Mon went instead of Mitchell. I have zero faith in him. But you know there are going to be fights when everyone gets back to FIDM.

Ha ha, Tim calls himself the profit of doom. Love it. Poor Ra'Mon, he rocks and Mitchell just is such a dork. Is this going to be a double elimination because Tim said it's the last night for at least one person...eeek.

On to the runway! And the guest judge is Rachel Bilson, with Max Azria sitting in for Michael Kors. First up Qristyl and Epperson and their beach look is adorable. It looks chic and beachy at the same time. The avant garde look doesn't seem to fit the model as well and once she takes off the cape (it's a cape, right) is just a shiny bathing suit. Johnny and Irina's first look is cute, but nothing to go nuts about. Isn't it just a white skirt and mesh looking top, or am I missing something? The avant garde look is out there, but fabulous. Very haut couture. Even though as a team Mitchell and Ra'Mon were a mess, their beach wear look is gorgeous, very goddess-y. But the avant garde dress is kinda messy.

Shirin and carol Hannah did a great bathing suit with cover up and interesting gown. Althea and Louise did a cute bubble cover up and their avant garde look is amazing...cascade skirt, flowing look, very sexy and runway. Nicholas and Gordana macrame look is beautiful with white wide leg pants, and their totally futuristic avant garde look could go either way. It's a bit slutty for me. Logan and Christopher's avant garde dress is insane. A huge tulle-looking dress with layers and layers of tulle, rock-n-roll meets barbie.

Althea + Louise, Logan + Chris, Shirin + Carol Hannah are safe. Nicholas + Gordana and Epperson + Qristyl have the lowest scores. Somehow Mitchell and Ra'Mon have the highest scores. They loved Shirin + Johnny even though that wasn't that beachy. OMG Mitchell admitted that Ra'Mon did everything. They loved Ra'Mon's last minute dress.

Yikes, Qristyl threw Epperson under the bus. They are now fighting on the runway. Ouch. Rachel Bilson looks pretty. They like the macrame of Nicholas + Gordana's top, but the pants are messy. And they think the other outfit is too sexy. Heidi's accent is so cute.

And Ra'Mon is the winner! He deserves it because he did ALL the work. Can they kick Mitchell off? Pu-lease??? Even though he was on the winning team? Mitchell's auf'd! Finally. He was nice, but not for fashion.

Not much to go on for next week, but looks good! See you next week!

Sex and the City 2

Wednesday September 2, 2009

Well we didn't have to wait that long. The ladies (and men) of Sex and the City have descended once again upon New York and have started to film the hopefully very fabulous and fashionable sequel!

Sarah Jessica Parker has already been spotted shooting in the city in some very far-our '80s wear. Is she channeling some new (or old) trends OR is this a flashback to when little Carrie arrived in New York oh-so-many years ago???

I love her Flashdance-y sweatshirt, I actually had one myself in hot pink! But I don't think I could squeeze myself into it anymore.

Here Comes Fall

Tuesday September 1, 2009

It's been a wacky summer here on the East Coast. First, it didn't get warm until almost July and then it was barely in the 80s. Now it's already getting chilly -- well, it's back in the 70s.

One of the best ways to check out the changing of the seasons is to check out celeb fashion. The second they smell even the hint of a new season they bring out their brand-spanking-new duds. Case in point, Kate Hudson and her knee-high suede boots. Wow.

Obviously, boots are always trendy, but this fall they are getting even higher. Like above the knee. This might be a problem for those of us a tad more petite, but hey, a gal can dream!

Project Runway Season Six, Week 2

Thursday August 27, 2009

Welcome back for week two of our live blogging of Project Runway! After last week's not-so-surprising elim of Ari we're excited to see who's going to be auf'd this week. And we're even more excited to see the secret celeb that the newbies are designing for.

First let's remember that Christopher has immunity this week. Whoa - they get a Paris vacation when they win...nice! How did Althea not think Ari was going home? Mitchell, that collar was not gorgeous.

Creating a look for an actual celebrity! And it is...pregnant Rebecca Romijn! She's preggers with twins -- well she was months months months ago. And they have to create something for any type of event with a beautiful silhouette.

I love the model bellies. How cute! Gordana has an edge having already been preggers twice. Hahah Ra'Mon called it a semester. Nice, they have two days to create the look.

Was Tim wearing navy and pink? I love that combo!

Why is Louise in the bathroom? Malvin just confuses me...a lot. The mother hen? That just sounds bad. Mitchell's shorts look like they could cover the state of Texas...not OK. Shirin's look is interesting. Who writes those motivational sayings on their chalkboard?

Why doesn't Mitchell know how to use a sewing machine? CHICKEN THIGHS?????? Ra'Mon's dress makes the stomach look huge, but looks pretty otherwise. Did Tim just call Malvin coo coo??

Ok, Mitchell should not be insulting anyone! Especially Ra'Mon who did so well last week.

Here come the models! Johnny's dress looks good. The jacket is a bit Easter Sunday-ish, but Rebecca may like that. Ra'Mon made a Stella leatha reference - holy moly I love him!

Runway time. OMG Monique Lhuillier is there. They should have done wedding dresses. Logan's outfit looks like a long t-shirt to me. Shirin rocked it. The dress looks amazing, but it's the jacket and the lining that really shows her fabulous eye and designing powers. Nicholas's model definitely looked a little booty-licious! Too short. Christopher's piece flowed, it was playful and really was elegant. Mitchell's look like a wife-beather in hotpants. I love the color of Qrityl's design, but it kind of just looks like a sheet to me. Epperson blew me away! That jumpsuit was chic to the max (in my opinion) especially since we all know how hot jumpers are right now!

Louise's dress was adorable. I was worried about her negligee style, but it definitely had pieces of that without going too far. Gordana's outfit was fine, nothing fabulous. (I think Epperson and Louise's looks were so gorgeous that now I've become jaded). I would wear Johnny's dress, without the belly. Ugh, Malvin, it looks like you wrapped a sheet around her belly. Ra'Mon channeled Herve Leger. I liked Carol's dress without the jacket. Althea's dress looked fab, so was Irina. Really flattering.

Louise, Mitchell, Althea, Malvin, Shirin, Ra'Mon were called out with the best and worst scores (where was Epperson?)! Everyone else is safe! Monique called it busy and sloppy. They noticed Louise's dress was like lingerie, but they liked it and the details. Rbecca loved how Althea's accentuated her curves and Monique loved the color. Nina called Malvin's sling is disturbing and Heidi wants to know why you would want to look like a chicken? Heidi likes the idea of Mitchell, but Nina called it a mess (pregnant mess). Monique loved the draping of Shirin's and told Shirin to get into the maternity business. Mitchell needs to go.

And the winner is...Shirin! Malvin's out...how has Mitchell been saved the past two weeks??? I was seriously no fan of Malvin, but come on! Next week teams of two, which means DRAMA!

Fashion's Night Out

Wednesday August 26, 2009

Not only is Fashion Week only a couple weeks away, but the fashion world is planning something big for us consumers, as well. It's called Fashion's Night Out. And it's all about shopping!

On September 10, over 700 stores (like Ann Taylor, Kate Spade, BCBG Max Azria, MAC, Nordstrom and so many more!) in New York City will keep their doors open way later than normal with designer appearances, live window displays (like Mannequin!!!), celebrity guests and special events to help up consumer confidence. This amazing shop-bration is being brought to us by the fashionistas at American Vogue, CFDA, New York and Company and the City of New York. Plus, there are similar nights happening all over the world in the UK, Spain, China, Japan, France and the list goes on, all on the very same night!

Plus the event will help benefit New York charities the September 11 Memorial and Museum and the
NYC AIDS Fund. Shopping for a good cause? Does it get any better? We think not.

Blake Lively's Affordable Style

Wednesday August 26, 2009

We all wanna look our best when we hit the town. So why not take a cue from one of the hottest starlets out there--Gossip Girl cutie Blake Lively.

On TV she plays socialite and stylista Serena van der Woodsen, and in real life Blake always looks equally stylish. Which is why we flipped out when we saw her in this slinky bedazzled golden mini-dress. But we flipped even more where we saw it was a new Kate Moss for Topshop dress because it means it's totally affordable!

It'll look equally sexy with bare legs (like Blake) as it will paired over opaque tights--hey, we're already thinking about fall. So get ready to gobble it up when Kate's new collection launches tomorrow because you know it'll fly off the shelves. Or racks.

So, What Did You Think?

Friday August 21, 2009

After all the months of anticipation, what did everyone think after the premiere of PR last night? And what did we all think of Models of the Runway, the half-hour show about the models that followed?

I love Project Runway, always have and always will, but the first few weeks when there are SEW many contestants it's hard to weed thru them and really get to see and know the true designers. But it was fun having the show back. And it made me extra excited for NY Fashion Week and for getting out my new fall fashions.

I enjoyed Models. I love America's Next Top Model and these girls seemed a little more model-y and it's nice to actually put personalities to the ladies who strut their tushes off every week. I can't wait for next week already. Bring on the newbies and bring on the guest judges!
