Project Runway Episode 2 Recap
Welcome to our Project Runway recap! Every week I am going to quickly go through the episode's challenge and then discuss the winner/loser and ask you, dear stylish ones, to give me your sartorial thoughts! Since I have already gone through the basic who's who of PR let's get right to the challenge! Woohoo! But first the newbies had to choose their models, eliminating them one by one like choosing sides for kickball...it was kinda harsh!
This week's challenge was super fun - make a cocktail dress for the models, with the model acting as the client. The catch: it had to be done using all green fabrics (environmentally responsible and conscious textiles, like bamboo and hemp) and the models did ALL the shopping. Groans all around! Don't worry, it got even worse once the models returned to Parsons with their goodies in tow. (Shannone -- Kenley's model - even commented on Kenley's look of disgust!). Side Note: Blayne referred to Heidi as Darth Vader and then amended it to Darthilicious -- is licious the new must-use suffix?
I thought the models did a pretty good job, except with what Jerrell called "Team Ugly Brown Fabric". At the runway, the guest judge was none other than vegan-loving starlet, Natalie Portman! I agree with Jerrell and "Team Ugly Brown Fabric" did not fare well. Wesley's mini-mess looked sloppy, while his "Brown" partner-in-crime Leanne's dress was overdone and both ended up on the bottom two. Some highlights were Keith's bubble halter (how did he do that layering?), Daniel (not that original but POCKETS), Jennifer (beautiful colors and flowy), Jerrell (tons of details and very sexy), Terri (gorgeous fit and fabulous lacing) and Kelli (she just gets mixing and matching fabrics). In the bottom three were Wesley (just overworked), Leanne (overdone) and Korto (inside out looking) and in the top three were Stella (flattering), Kenley (chic) and Suede (my favorite and unique). Suede was the ultimate winner with both Natalie and Heidi saying they would wear Suede's design (well, Heidi would have ten years ago). Poor Wesley got auf'd for having a sloppy and overworked design. And for all of us that really loved Suede's design, it's going to be manufactured and SOLD on Bluefly.com! YIPPEEE. Stay tuned for next week...
