By now you would have heard the news, seen the GIFs and tweeted the pictures of Jennifer Lawrence's infamous dress ripping as she collected her Actor for outstanding performance by a female actor in "Silver Linings Playbook" at last night's 19th Annual SAG Awards. Only, it turns out all ye amature fashion police, things aren't exactly as they seem.
According to a statement from a spokesperson at Christian Dior Couture, there was no rip and no malfunction whatsoever, since the dress was designed with a split in the fabric, which, in motion, looked like a tear. Well of course! Why wouldn't a designer create a dress that looks as though it's torn?
"The dress is made with different levels of tulle and satin and that is what the viewers saw when Jennifer lifted her dress slightly," a rep from the fashion design house told USA Today. "It was not ripped, and there was no malfunction.. it was the design of the gown."
So there we have it. Jennifer Lawrence's wardrobe malfunction was all an illusion and trickery of the mind, meaning we'll have to wait for the next award show for celebs to (literally) air their dirty laundry. Some crime against fashion is bound to go down at the Grammys. It always does.
