Anne Hathaway's Celebrity Style

Making her onscreen debut in the 2001 teenage comedy, "The Princess Diaries" -- which documents the makeover of an awkward New Yorker to a statuesque Princess -- Anne Hathaway has slowly transformed into the Academy Award winning actress we see today.

In the aftermath of "The Princess Diaries'" release, her profile increased stratospherically, and we began to pay a lot more attention to her style. But back then, she was all about boxy, shapeless dresses, and shirts paired with knee length skirts. Not her smartest choices, but fashion is a journey and she would soon enough take the high road.

When the 2003 Golden Globe Awards came around Hathaway looked better than ever, sporting a pink number with a high slit revealing her leg (think Angelina Jolie at the 2012 Oscars, but not as severe and awkward). This dress was the sign that she'd finally come into her own and had discovered her signature look.

On the red carpet, Hathaway oozes femininity, class and elegance. Her dresses usually have an empire line or a fitted top half to flatter her hourglass shape. She knows not only how to make a dress her own, but how to wear the one that's right for her which is, without a doubt, a rare talent (perhaps one she nurtured while surrounded by the clothing on the set of "The Devil Wears Prada").
In everyday life you will often see her sporting a trusted pair of skinny pants, be it leggings or jeans, paired with a simple shirt or tee because, believe it or not, celebrities have lives off the film set too. More recently, due to taking the role of Fantine in "Les Miserables" and pixie cropping her hair, her look has become even more casual and relaxed, with the added bonus of less time styling her tresses. Few could get away with this short crop, but on Hathaway, it looks fantastic and shows off her fabulous jaw line and collar bones, really giving the press something to talk about.

Her makeup both off and on the red carpet is minimalistic, with a natural foundation, small amount of blusher, bronzer for definition, and either nude or pink lipstick. She has the facial definition to work this look, proving a comfortable change from the slap-happy Taylor Momsens and Kim Kardashians of the red carpet land. When her hair was longer, Hathaway rocked a classic look, which was either down with sexy '60s curls or in an Audrey Hepburn á la Holly Golightly style updo, again showing off her features.

More recently we have seen the star at the premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises" in one of her most beautiful looks yet. The long, white, somewhat Grecian style dress, with a peplum at her waist and jewels adorning a chest panel is a masterpiece by Prabal Gurung Resort in their 2013 line. I'm glad she wore white instead of black at this event because, in an almost all-male cast of black suits, she gleamed and stood out from the rest.

I look forward to seeing what Hathaway chooses to wear to the "Les Miserables" premiere in December -- will she again sparkle and continue her transformation into the Princess of the Hollywood realm?
