Spring 2009 Fashion Trends
How To Look Cool When The Weather Turns Warm

With the weather finally starting to feel a bit warmer it's time to put aside those snow boots and Northface jackets and break out your favorite springtime wares. But how do you keep up with the ever-changing styles of Spring? No worries. We're here to help you navigate through the multiple trends of Spring and figure out which ones work and which ones should be pushed to the back of the closet. Of course, not all fashions work for everyone so pay close attention. And remember that fashion is all about attitude -- wear it with confidence, and you'll look great every time!

1. Butterflies

Forget what you know, butterflies are not at all childish. In fact, this is one trend, everyone can wear. Butterflies are carefree yet sexy at the same time and can also be girly without looking too young. Depending on who's wearing them, and how they're worn and accessorized, butterflies can come off as either feminine or edgy and add just the right bit of spice to an outfit.

2. Asymmetrical

Although asymmetrical is nothing new, we're seeing it now on everything from the red carpet to our everyday wardrobes. Don't be surprised if your day-to-day clothes get punched up a bit with this trend, including your favorite tank tops and t-shirts, and even bathing suits. But be warned, this trend works best for those who are smaller on top because the asymmetrical shape makes you appear broader. If you are broader on top and want to tackle this trend, choose a wider strap because it will balance you out. Additionally, when wearing an asymmetrical top keep your accessories simple.

3. Ruffles

Anyone can do ruffles -- in moderation. Ruffles immediately add femininity, but you have to be careful not to over-ruffle yourself and by doing so, add volume to your body. If you're smaller on top, wearing a ruffled top is a great way to amp up your bust area. Plus, it also looks very elegant. Ruffles also work well as detailing on skirts, sleeves and collars. But the main point to remember with this trend is always wear in moderation!

4. Bondage

This trend isn't as scary as it sounds. Although you might think this trend will never see the light of day off the catwalk, celebs like Rihanna, Beyonce and Lindsay Lohan have already been sporting these skin-tight designs in real life. It might be easier to squeeze one element of the bondage trend into your look, say a skirt or top, instead of the entire outfit. But your curves will look smoother and sexier once you pour yourself into one of these babies. We promise.

5. Bows

Whether on a shoe, handbag or top, bow accents immediately add a touch of romance and update classic looks with a more modern feel. The great part with bows are that unlike ruffles, you don't have to worry about size. An over-sized bow just adds drama to an outfit, whereas a smaller one gives you a preppier feel. Bows work on pretty much everything -- blazers, shoes, headbands, tops, skirts -- so depending on your personality (prim and proper, dramatic and loud) you can pick your bow type and where it goes. Take a bow!
