What's black and white and red all over? Anne Hathaway on the red carpet of course! She rocked a black cat woman suit in "The Dark Knight Rises," but since filming began on "Les Miserables," Anne Hathaway's wardrobe has taken an even more monochromatic turn. The past few months have seen her dressing like a barcode on countless red carpets and I've got the evidence to prove it...
1. White Ankle Tux
Stella McCartney was the toast of the Big Apple at her 2013 Resort presentation in June 2012. Suited and booted for the event, a newly sheared Anne Hathaway stepped out in the designer du jour, a white ankle-length pants suit combo with a tux jacket. She added a simple, but cute graphic tee underneath to keep things a little more casual, since this was a garden party.
2. Black Peplumage
The latest "Batman" franchise director and creator Christopher Nolan was finally immortalized in cement with a hand and footprint ceremony at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles in July 2012. Showing her support for the man of the moment, Hathaway paired her pixie cut with a ruffled peplum Givenchy dress and Thierry Lasry sunglasses. The shades are more than appropriate for the California sunshine, but the dress seems too funeral-appropriate for daywear.
3. White Light
Like a light switch, Anne flips back to white and attends the New York premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises" in a Prabal Gurung dress, custom vegan Casadei shoes (she is a strict vegan gal of course) and Kwiat jewels. It's the perfect color to pop against the black carpet that's been specially rolled out for Batman's debut, although a statement necklace (do learn from our video on How to Create an Outfit) would have looked great in the ample white-space between her shoulder straps.
4. Black Beauty
Hathaway attends the November 2012 Women's Media Awards in New York City, where she was pegged as host for the occassion, a decision that was no doubt based on her excellent Oscar duties. She reverts back to black for the night and dresses in a Victoria Beckham dress and Casadei shoes. Like all VB dresses, it's strategically structured and I do admire the pop of red color Anne has added to her nails, it's just a shame she didn't mirror the hue on her lips.
5. White Batwinged
And finally, at the world premiere of "Les Miserables, held at the Odeon Leicester Square, London in December 2012, Anne departed from her usually safe cuts and chose this daring backless, batwinged Givenchy gown. Reviews were less than glowing for her gown, which typically looked like some les miserable rags in the back, but not improving the night much more, Amanda Seyfried's joker-like ensemble -- Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquiere dress and Alexandre Birman shoes -- was equally disastrous. I dreamed a dream that they sacked their stylists.
