For a week each year the Hollywood glitterati swap the busy freeways of Los Angeles for the historic canals of Venice during their annual pilgrimage to Italy for the Venice Film Festival. As the most laissez-faire of festivals, stars who visit Venice go with a much more relaxed, laid back wardrobe than, say, the galamazon attendees of TIFF. Case in point, Naomi Watts, who's in the City of Bridges to promote her husband Liev Schreiber's new film "The Reluctant Fundamentalist."
1. The Look
Arriving by gondola, the ever-glowing Naomi Watts touched down in slim black pants, a white blazer, casual tee, brown suede Ash Jalouse ankle booties ($246.94), and a fedora. She offset the outfit with a pair of bright pink sunglasses. Nice touch. Later, she changed into a short black dress and black gladiator sandals, but held on to the same straw fedora. Clearly she's formed a little bit of a clothing crush on this hat, which makes it our top priority to find the same one for a bargain price. And while, we're at it, we may as well copy the rest of her outfit!
We may be coming to the end of sun hat season, but don't let that deter you from buying new headware, especially when they're at end of season prices! A classic straw fedora is a staple summer item, so rest assured that it will keep for your winter sun vacay, or next year's sizzling weather. That said, at $16.25 this paper fedora is practically disposable fashion, and the white black band is just like Naomi's.
I was going to find a suave blazer and then suggest rolling/ruching the sleeves yourselves, until I found this little gem. Pulled from Charlotte Russe's Fantasy Island collection, this lightweight boyfriend blazer comes in white knit fabric with already ruched 3/4 sleeves, for just $39.99! It fits with faux front pockets and single button closure.
If you don't already own a pair of black skinny pants (shame on you!), it would be a wise decision to invest in these American Eagle trousers. They cost $39.50 and market themselves as the pants that go with everything! I'm not disputing the claim, since no wardrobe is complete without a pair of black skinnies. This particular pair are a low rise fit and made of crisp stretch cotton twill.
Sure suede is great, until you get caught in an unexpected downpour, but these Ecote suede boots from Urban Outfitters will get you through fall in a few clicks of your heels. Just like Naomi's Ash Jalouse ankle booties, they have a stacked wooden heel which, if you're not a stiletto kind of gal, is a great compromise for comfort. This pair also come in five different colors, but at $69.99, you won't feel guilty about splurging on more than one.
While you're still perusing the Urban Outfitters store, if you simply must have Naomi's party pink shades, you can add these Heart Attack risky sunglasses to your basket for $14.
Finally, complete the look with a basic white tee, preferable long sleeve ('tis the season) like this Alternative Apparel inside-out long sleeve tee from Vintage Fringe. Yeah, yeah, I know what you're think, it's just another plain white top, but let me draw your attention to two things. Firstly, this top fits below the waist like Naomi's and, secondly, it's currently on sale for $10!
