There is one thing every star has -- perfect hair! Our favorite is Jennifer Aniston. But don't worry, they're not born with it! So we went to Bumble and Bumble stylist Sarah Rappolt to get the tricks of a celeb-perfect blow-dry in just a couple of steps. Easy breezy hair for the perfectionist in all of us!
1. Be Prepared
"Let's face it, very few people have hair that you have to do ABSOLUTELY nothing to," says Sarah Rappolt of Bumble and Bumble. It's important to layer the right products, and Sarah suggests Bumble and Bumble's Prep and Style lotion. It's light and non-greasy (perfect in any weather!). Plus, it protects hair from heat styling -- ideal for the blow-drying obsessed. Make sure to spray evenly.
2. Roots First
Although it's tempting to dry the ends first, Sarah says if you only have five minutes make sure you do the roots! By drying the roots, you can control what shape your blow-dry will take and keep it looking fresh for days. To get air moving through your roots (not at the scalp), flip your head over and tug lightly at the roots.
3. Get Organized
Now it's time to flip back over. We're not naming names, but some of us have a lot of hair so Sarah suggests dividing hair into sections to keep the drying manageable -- one on each side, two on top and a couple in the back. Plus, Sarah says a blow-dry done correctly should never take more then 15-20 minutes. If it does, you might be sporting the wrong 'do.
4. Get Blowing
Now it's time to get busy! While drying, direct the air down the hair shaft always smoothing the cuticle as you go, says Sarah. Concentrate first on the roots, then midshaft and finally on the ends. Make sure each is dry before you move on to the next section. Once the sections are dry, run your fingers through your hair under a cool shot of air to bring them together. Finally, use a light silicone-based spray or gel to calm fly-aways and lock in shine and shape. Now get ready for your close-up!
